Gokyo Cho La Pass Everest Base Camp Trek

Gokyo Cho La Pass Trekking is one of the most adventurous trekking routes in Everest region. It follows the route via high pass called Chola Pass at 5330 meters into Everest Base Camp. Gokyo Cho La Pass trek begins from Lukla. After one day acclimatization in Namche Bazaar, it follows all the way to Gokyo Lake. After you reach Gokyo Lake you climb Gokyo Ri (5480 m) and from top of Gokyo Ri, you enjoy stunning summit mountain scenery including Everest, Makalu, and Cho Oyo.

 

The following day you cross Chola Pass ((5330 m) and reach Dzongla. After Dzongla you move towards Gorakshep and ascent to Kalapathar (5545m) from where you enjoy an impressive up-close view of Mt. Everest. Then next day you trek to Everest Base Camp. Your return route passes through Tyangboche, a place where a famous magnificent monastery is located. We take a rest there and savor the incredible scenery unchanging views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Amadablam, Mt. Thamserku, Mt. Khangtega, Mt. Kwangde, Mt. Nuptseetc and back to Lukla airport.

Day 01: Arrival and transfer to Hotel in Kathmandu

Upon arrival in Kathmandu Airport, our airport representative will welcome you and give you short info about Kathmandu and directly drive to the Hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

 

Day 02: Sightseeing for a full day in Kathmandu Valley.

World heritage sites like Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhu Nath, Boudha Nath, Pasupati Nath, etc. Preparation for the trekking.

 

Day 03: Kathmandu fly to Lukla and trek to Phakding (2,620m)

Morning flight to Lukla (35 Minutes) and start the trek through Sherpa village. The trail goes gradually flat and easy to Phakding.

 

Day 04: Phakding trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440m)

You are approaching the Himalaya. Viewing all mountain and pine forest and following the yak trail takes you to Namche Bazar. On the way, you will have the first encounter of Mount Everest, Amadablam, Thamserku and many more.

 

Day 05: Rest day in Namche for acclimatization

Optional hike to Khumjung Monastery/Everest View Hotel.

 

Day 06: Namche Trek to Dole (4,200m)

After a wonderful time here at Namche the walk starts with a short uphill on the main trail to Everest base camp for a while, then on the gradual winding track to Kyangima near Shanasa a small settlements with few houses, here might see some wildlife as this area if full of colourful Danphe pheasant (Impeyan Pheasant) National bird of Nepal and elusive musk deer, Himalayan Thar (mountain goat).

 

After a good walk trek diverts leaving the main trail behind then continue trek towards Gokyo with steep climb to Mong ridge top at 3,973 meters, from here walking downhill path to Phortse Thanghka near Dudh Kosi River. From here walk heads to Dole for the overnight stop, after a climb into small woods of rhododendron trees as it changes to juniper and conifers bushes tree lines then to Tongba 3,950m and Gyele 3,960 m small settlements before Dole, here at Dole with fascinating views of Khumbila and Tawache peaks.

 

Day 07: Trek Dole to Machermo (4,410m)

From Dole you climb steadily along the side of the valley, where small and thorny bushes give way to scrub juniper as the altitude increases. The trail passes many summer settlements. The view ahead of you presents majestic views of Cho Oyu, while back down the valley are the peaks of Kantega and Thamserku. This is a short day and you will arrive at Machhermo in time for lunch. Stay overnight in a tea house lodge.

 

Day 08: Trek Machermo to Gokyo (4,760m)

Today you head for the lakes at Gokyo. You follow a very scenic path to Pangka and then descend slightly, following one of the melted-water Rivers which flow down the west side of the Ngozumpa Glacier. You climb a steep rocky incline into the valley by the side of the glacier, passing the first of the holy lakes. You soon arrive at the second of the lakes, crossing the path which heads across the glacier to Cho La (5420m.), and your route to Lobuche. The third lake is known as Dudh Pokhari and on its eastern shore is the settlement of Gokyo. Stay over night in a tea house lodge.

 

Day 09: Hike to Gokyo Ri (5,483 m) and back to Gokyo and trek to Thangnak (4,500m).

We hike to the Gokyo RI early in the morning through the steep rocky trail. Gokyo RI is the incredible views of the Everest region the White Mountains: Everest, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and the vicinity peaks. Ngozumba glacier stretches to a long line around the Khumbu glacier. From this place, the views of the Gokyo Lakes and valleys can be seen clearly. It is also an acclimatizing hike that we can have a better journey through the technical high pass over the Cho La. Then we descend to the Gokyo valley. After breakfast, we start to head further with the astounding views of Kusum Kanguru, Thamserku, Kangtega, Makalu, Lhotse, Nuptse, and various others. Overnight at local lodge.

 

Day 10: Cross Cho La pass (5300m), trek to Dzongla (4710m).

Early in the morning before the sunlight, we start to trek to avoid the harsh weather. It is a steep climb up through the tough rocky trail. Cho La Pass at 5300 meters is another good view of the Everest and other high Himalayas. If there is snow, we may have to use the ropes and climbing equipment. Then, we need to deal with the steep descent trail which we have to deal very attentively. With a gentle down. Overnight at local lodge.

 

Day 11: Dzongla to Lobuche (4910m)

We have an easy day with a short walk. After crossing a technical high pass of the Everest, we walk further by observing the glacial panoramas. After crossing the bridge, we walk through the grassy trail. Again the views of Thamserku, Kangtega, Tawoche energize us to proceed ahead. Steadily, we reach to Lobuche. Overnight at local lodge.

 

Day 12: Lobuche – Gorakshep (5,164 m) – Everest Base Camp (5,364 m):

We walk to Gorakshep from Lobuche today. The trail follows with up and down on the mountains and glacial moraine. Once we reach Gorakshep, we take lunch at the tea house we are staying tonight and proceed towards Everest Base Camp in the afternoon. We walk to the epic base of the highest mountain in the world. We walk to the new base camp of the Everest which is different than the old one where Hillary and Tenzing had camped before starting on their adventure journey towards the summit of the highest peak in the world. After spending some quality time at the base camp, from where we can inhale fresh air from stunning mountains of Pumori, Khumbutse, and Nuptse, we start our way back to Gorakshep. Overnight at local lodge.

 

Day 13: Hike up to Kalapatthar (5,545 m) early in the morning and trek down to Pheriche (4,200 m):

Early in the morning, we take a hike to Kalapatthar, dotted with the black rock. Massive Everest region peaks appear eventually during the trek, including Mt. Everest, Lhotse face, Nuptse, AmaDablam, Taboche, Cholatse, Lobuche East and Pumori. The golden sunrise over the white peaks really entices us that we capture in the camera. The Khumbu glacier is seen down in a winding form. Then we descend to Gorakshep and have breakfast. Tracking down along the descent route, we reach to Thugla and cross the stream. We take a right trail avoiding the trail to Dingboche. In Pheriche, there is a health center. Overnight at local lodge.

 

Day 14: Pheriche Trek back to Namche (3,440m)

Walking through the wide valley offers you the great views of Himalaya and takes your time to visit the giant Sherpa village and monastery along the way to Namche Bazar. You might see the Trans Himalayan Market in Namche Bazaar.

 

Day 15: Namche Bazar trek to Lukla (2,800m)

Even though you are trekking back same trails but a lot of different views and Sherpa village will keep your mind busy.

 

Day 16: Fly back Lukla to Kathmandu

Take a Mountain scenic flight over the Himalaya to Kathmandu. Arrivals and transfer to Hotel. The trip will conclude here. You are open for your wellness day in Kathmandu. Evening, farewell dinner in Nepali typical restaurant.

 

Day 17: Free day in Kathmandu sightseeing and shopping

One reserved day in Kathmanud if lukla flight might be cancelled.

 

Day 18: Kathmandu Hotel-Transfer to Airport (TIA)

After having the breakfast we will transfer you to The Kathmandu Airport with private vehicle for your final departure.
